Scarborough High Open Space Action Group
February 2000 Update

The fight for the land continues although the demolition of the school is complete and we are mourning the loss of our heritage and a perfectly structurally sound school and community facility. The hall and the pool and the tennis courts went too - such a waste. The contractor told us that there was no time to recycle material because the Education Department wanted the job done in a hurry - 80% of the building went to land fill - it is a scandal - this aspect is being pursued by the Greens.

We are having an Open Day on the oval on Sunday 20 February and hope to have hundreds turn up - Parliament will consider the amendment to the Metropolitan Region Scheme in March and in the meantime we are still madly lobbying the political parties especially the minor parties in the Upper House which is our only chance of blocking the legislation.

Regards,
Robyn Murphy
