Olympic Food for Thought

The Olympics has come a long way from being a gathering of athletes striving against nature and each other to see who is the best.  Here are some ideas you may wish to comment on.  If you have comments or suggestions for others, please send them to webmaster@tovegin.com.au

The REAL games

Spare a thought for what might be considered the real games.  The Paralympics.  This is series of sporting contests (18-29 Oct, 2000) where athletes with disabilities compete.  Now THAT'S the Olympic spirit !

Telecommuting (or working from home)

This is a BIG subject, but gaining lots of interest lately to help avoid the crowds.  (See separate info on Crowds & Dates).  But in keeping with the spirit of this page, here are some things to consider.

1. Ensure you talk to your boss / management about the whole thing !
2. It will be easier if your company already has a way for staff to use their computers from home.  Typically referred to as a "dial in" or "remote access" facility.
3. Usually only useful if the job entails a lot of use of things like Microsoft Office and e-mail. etc.
4. Things like your home computer being compatible and comparable to your office computer, a second phone line at home, a fax at home, and someplace to work without being disturbed by the rest of the family need to be considered.
5. Can you reasonably be expected to achieve usual work levels ?  It's not fair on you or the kids / spouse if the kids / spouse are at home and you can't keep them from disturbing your work.
