In days gone by, the community and the bank went hand in hand. Some
would say the bank was part of what made the community. So what happens
when the bank loses sight of the community or moves out all together ?? !
Some communities have taken up the challenge and created their own bank

Effectively Bendigo Bank offers a franchise to a local public company made up of
members of the local community. (For more details see

So what is happening in the Hornsby area ? A group of local community
business owners and residents have formed the Hornsby Community Bank Steering
Committee (HCBSC) . With the help of volunteers, the HCBSC will start to
measure and record what support from groups, organisations, businesses, and
residents there is for the formation of the Hornsby Community Bank.
We'll use this web site to track how progress is going, particularly with the
Hornsby Community Bank proposal. But we certainly welcome any feedback on
any other success stories, work in progress, etc.
