Surname Databases

Having chosen to establish a Surname Resource Centre, we find that there are a lot of different ways to do the same things.  For example, all of our research to date has put the info into a Family Tree Maker web site.  (See Family Tree Maker's Users: L & C Czarnik's Family Tree )

However we have found that many other research sites make use of GEDCOM.  (See Czarnik SRC - GEDCOM Defined for more info).  This lends itself to sharing the information using searchable databases, such as Ged2HTML, Ged2Page. While not required, a searchable database has it's obvious advantages.  (You can however, use your browser's "Find in Page" feature to search any regular web site page.)

So we plan to put together a searchable database. Hopefully this will allow people to find their ancestors more quickly.
